Art

Visual Art Learning Area

In Visual Arts, students develop visual literacy and conceptual thinking across a range of practices; drawing, sculpture, design, painting, printmaking, photography, and moving image. The Visual Arts of Māori, European, Pasifika, Asian and other cultures are viewed and studied as students explore experiences, stories, abstract concepts, and social issues through the making of artworks.

Students are exposed to a range of artmaking approaches to develop practical and creative problem-solving skills, digital processes and traditional art processes combine to explore new and exciting ways to create art.

As students learn to communicate visually, they lay the foundation for lifelong enjoyment of the arts and culture. Some students will go on to take Tertiary courses such as Fine Arts, Architecture, Design,  Film, Animation, and Game Design. These courses are only a sample of many career pathways available to students with a Visual Arts education.
