Agriculture

Studying Agriculture and Horticulture gives you the in-demand skills to help produce food, timber and fibre for the world's population, while preserving the environment for the future.

Five Reasons to Study Agriculture and Horticulture.

1) There's a high demand for people with a range of skills who can sustainably produce food. By 2050 the world's population will hit 9 billion people. All of them will need to be fed and clothed.

2) New Zealand is in a unique position, in that as a country it's blessed with the topography, climate and intellectual know-how to grow food and fibre all year round in a sustainable way that most countries are unable to do.

3) Changing attitudes toward animal welfare and the environment are affecting how farmers work.

4) There's a huge amount of high-tech innovation driving the sector. If we can measure it, we can manage it.

5) The opportunity to work outside and connect with nature.

Wairarapa College also has its own 22 hectare working farm with woolshed, purpose-built cattle yards, olive grove and large vegetable garden.
