Course Description

If you enjoy reading and engaging with a variety of texts, can write an essay independently, and you are on an academic pathway, perhaps to university, you will choose this course. This could be one of your approved courses that meets the requirements for University Entrance. You will create an individualised programme, with your English teacher, based on your interests and strengths. The skills you gain will benefit you in all subject areas.
To allow for flexibility and differentiation, classes work within the digital platform, ‘Microsoft Teams’. This complements teaching and learning within and beyond the classroom. All students are encouraged to bring a device to use in class, as well as at home.
Recommended Prior Learning
Successful completion of Level 2 English, including at least one externally assessed standard (exam).
All students will have an opportunity to deliver an 8 minute seminar (speech). They will be able to write academic-styled reports independently.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
You will need pens and pencils, a laptop, head phones, and a folder to keep any paper work organised.
Credit Information
You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.

Only students engaged in learning and achievement derived from Te Marautanga o Aotearoa are eligible to be awarded these subjects as part of the requirement for 14 credits in each of three subjects.
